Our Trip: who we are and what it's about
We are three students and two staff from UAB's Baptist Campus Ministries- a Christian ministry that seeks to grow disciples on UAB's campus. We are Tiffany, Sybil, and Doug (students) and Jess and Craig (staff). We are excited and we are hopeful. We believe God has given us this opportunity and called us to it.
We will be spending Monday through Saturday in Pattaya Thailand (not actually in Bangkok, but a 2 hour drive south on the coast). Pattaya is a resort town most known for tourism and the sex trade. Over 90% of the Thai people there are Buddhist. We will work this week with a team of 4 from Cumming Baptist church in Georgia, and with the Kuters, an IMB missionary couple, and with a Thai Christian church. We will teach some basic ESL classes to build connections between the church and the students who come, and to have chances to share the gospel, and we will hand out literature in the streets, in the market places, and in the slums, and we will pray to Jesus the Lord in temples built for people to worship Buddha. We will pray that God will lead us to people who are ready to believe and that we can tell about Him.
I am praying and hoping that we will be of good service to our friends in the Thai church, that our work and presence will bless and honor them. I pray that we will learn from and be inspired by their faith and that God will use us to bless their faith in some way. I have read recently that the Church in the West should go forward into this century seeing itself as a servant of the Church in the East, and this is the attitude that I hold and encourage. God is working is so many Eastern nations and His church is growing in many places. We are privileged to go and help. Pray for us that we be confident and bold and gracious, that we work and pray hard and give the very best of who God has made us to these people in Pattaya. Thank you! Jesus came to give the Best Life possible (John 10:10). May the people we meet hear and believe!
